X Weekly Active Users & Rankings Drop Post Rebrand: Report

Elon Musk’s decision to rebrand X (formerly Twitter) has reportedly caused a decrease in its number of downloads from 6 to 20 August, according to a media report on Monday.

The microblogging platform also suffered 4 per cent drop in its weekly active users, the report said additionally.

The dramatic downfall was revealed by app intelligence firm Sensor Tower which underlined the result across both iOS and Android, following the app’s renaming to X.

It further highlighted a bright spot indicating the revenue jump after rebranding (6-20 August) which stood by 25 per cent approximately, driven by earnings from iOS (up 24 per cent), Sensor Tower added.

However, this also drove a large spike in Twitter Lite installs in the first week of the rebranding (23 July to 5 August), a jump of around 350 per cent.

The Sensor Tower analysis said that combined with X, the Twitter ecosystem of applications saw downloads growth by 11 per cent, driven by its installation in India, the US and Indonesia.

Overall X revenue also fell by 3 per cent, primarily due to an 8 per cent decrease on iOS from 23 July to 5 August.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the X rebrand also impacted Instagram Threads.
