Tyler Boyd puts Cincinnati Bengals on the board with 72-yard touchdown

If the Cincinnati Bengals want to beat the Miami Dolphins, they need some big plays to come away with a road victory on Sunday.

And Cincinnati got one in the first quarter. On third-and-2, Bengals quarterback Brandon Allen found Tyler Boyd, and the wide receiver did the rest. Boyd took the short pass and went down the field for a 72-yard touchdown to give the Bengals an early 7-0 lead with 3 minutes and 31 seconds left in the quarter.

It was the longest play of Boyd’s career. The fifth-year player out of Pitt had a 49-yard catch in 2017 and 2018. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Boyd’s catch against the Dolphins had the most yards after catch of any reception in the league this season.

Also, Allen’s 72-yard pass touchdown is the Bengals’ longest play from scrimmage since Andy Dalton‘s 77-yard touchdown to A.J. Green in 2017, per ESPN Stats & Info. The 2017 Dalton pass was thrown 35 yards downfield. Allen’s passing touchdown Sunday was thrown to the line of scrimmage.
