Prannoy, Kashyap, Pranaav, Guru test positive for Covid-19 | Badminton News – Times of India

HYDERABAD: Four international shuttlers, including the newly-married RMV Gurusaidutt tested positive for Covid-19.
HS Prannoy, Parupalli Kashyap and Pranaav Jerry Chopra, who attended the pre-wedding celebrations tested positive for the virus.
It is suspected that they have contracted the virus during the wedding of Gurusaidutt. The wedding was on November 25.
After the wedding one of their friends, who is not a shuttler and moved closely with them tested positive. Worried with this development, Guru, Kashyap, Saina Nehwal and HS Prannoy took the test in Hyderabad while Pranaav tested himself after he returned to Punjab.
While the four men tested positive, Saina returned negative on November 29. This forced all the members of the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy to give their samples for the test on November 20. Thankfully, none of them tested positive.
Though Kashyap and Prannoy are not part of the national camp, both are training with the rest of the squad. “Due to Covid-19 precautions, most of us attended only the Sangeet. But these players are part of Guru’s close friends circle. The whole wedding week, they moved together. That’s why only they must have tested positive while others at the academy did not contract the virus. Though Saina was part of that friends’ group she must be having strong antibodies. Even Guru’s wife tested negative,” a member of the Gopichand Academy told TOI.
Both Kashyap and Prannoy will be under quarantine for 14 days. “They will join the Academy after a couple of weeks. They are recovering quite well. All of them are preparing for the Asia leg to be held in Thailand next month,” said a coach.
