Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to hold a meeting to review the situation related to the cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy,’ according to media reports.

The weather agency has stated that the exact places where the cyclone will make landfall are the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts.

As a precaution, fishing activities have been suspended along Gujarat’s south and north coasts, and authorities have been instructed to evacuate people by sea to safe districts, according to reports.

It has been added that around 1,300 people have already been shifted to safer places so far.

According to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the ‘extremely severe cyclonic storm’ is estimated to move north-northeast and cross Saurashtra and Kutch, adjoining Pakistan’s coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) by noon on 15 June, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 kilometres per hour (km/h) gusting to 150 km/h, as added by the IMD.
