PM Modi Hands Over G-20 Presidency To Brazil In Concluding Session

In his concluding remarks at the summit, Brazil’s President advocated for greater representation of developing countries on the United Nations Security Council, both as permanent and non-permanent members

As the G20 Summit in New Delhi came to a close, Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the ceremonial gavel to Brazilian President Lula to mark the handover of the G20 presidency. The Brazilian President praised Prime Minister Modi for efficiently leading the G-20 bloc and for excellent work at this summit.

In his concluding remarks at the summit, Brazil’s President advocated for greater representation of developing countries on the United Nations Security Council, both as permanent and non-permanent members. “We want more representation for emerging countries at the World Bank and IMF,” the President added. The Brazilian President mentioned social inclusion, hunger relief, energy transition, and sustainable development as G20 priorities.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi has proposed a virtual G20 summit in November to monitor progress on issues addressed at this summit. “As you are all aware, India holds the G20 chairmanship till November 2023. During these two days, you all made numerous suggestions and offered proposals. It is our responsibility to analyse the ideas we have received again to see how their progress might be accelerated. I propose that we hold a virtual session of G-20 at the end of November,” he stated at the close of the session.
