PM Modi Discusses Bilateral Trade, Investment Ties With Vietnam’s Pham Minh Chinh

Amid the G-7 summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met Vietnamese PM Pham Minh Chinh in Hiroshima and agreed to enhance high-level exchanges and deepen bilateral trade and investment ties.

They also discussed opportunities in the fields of defence, building resilient supply chains, energy, science and technology, human resource development, culture & people to people ties.

The leaders had a positive exchange of views on regional developments. They also discussed ASEAN and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.

PM Modi briefed Chinh about India’s G-20 presidency and the primacy given by India to highlight the perspectives and concerns of the global south.

Ealier, Modi held a bilateral meeting with Japanese PM Fumio Kishida on the sidelines of the G-7 summit in Hiroshima.

In their second meeting in 2023, following the visit of PM Kishida to India in March this year, both leaders discussed the concerns and priorities of the global south.

Prime Minister Modi recalled that the Indian Parliament commemorated every year Hiroshima Day and noted that Japanese diplomats were always present on the occasion.

The leaders discussed ways to synergise the efforts of their respective G-20 and G-7 presidencies. Prime Minister stressed the need to highlight the concerns and priorities of the global south.

“The two leaders exchanged views on contemporary regional developments. They also discussed deepening cooperation in the Indo-Pacific,” as per the PMO statement.

The leaders agreed on ways to further strengthen the bilateral special strategic and global partnership. 

Discussions also focused on areas of education, skill development, tourism, lifestyle for the environment (LiFE), green hydrogen, high technology, semiconductors and digital public infrastructure. 

Combating terrorism and reform of the United Nations was also discussed.
