The famous director Hansal Mehta is currently a happy man as his last released web series Scoop starring Karisma Tanna is getting a lot of praises by audiences as well as critics. Hansal Mehta has given us some good movies earlier too including Rajkummar Rao starrer Shahid.

This movie was based on the story of Mumbai lawyer, Shahid Azmi who was shot dead in his office in the year 2010. Shahid Azmi was exclusively known for fighting cases of Muslims whom he felt had been wrongly accused of terrorism.

Recently, Hansal Mehta opened up about the challenges and problems faced by him while making Shahid. Hansal revealed that he had sent the script to many actors, while some of them straightaway refused to do the film, there were few who were in the favor of completely changing the narrative but Hansal Mehta was quite determined that either he would make the movie as per the original script or he would not make the flick at all.

It was then the casting director Mukesh Chabbra and director Anurag Kashyap suggested him the name of Rajkummar Rao who was a newcomer at that time. Mehta wasn’t interested in meeting Rajkummar as he was told by producers that “Anurag is going to send Rajkummar to you. I’m not funding it. I’m not putting money in for Rajkummar”.

However, Hansal Mehta still met the Badhai Do actor and he saw the hunger in the actor to give everything in a good role. Hansal met the producer with poster of movie featuring Rajkummar Rao, the producer liked the poster and asked who this person is. In response, Hansal Mehta told him about Rajkummar Rao and also asked him to watch Rajkummar’s Ragini MMS.

The producer watched the movie and was convinced of Rajkummar Rao’s acting skills. Both Rao and Mehta won the National Award for the movie and it was praised by everyone who watched it.
