Life as we know it changed drastically in 2020. The novel coronavirus pandemic brought myriad challenges, both in our personal and professional lives. Kaun Banega Crorepati also had to undergo many changes to come back with its 12th season. In this new normal, the makers had to introduce new rules and safety protocols. We’ll tell you all the reasons that make KBC 12 different.
COMEBACK AFTER A SETBACK
KBC 12 premiered on September 28. Amitabh Bachchan had announced that KBC was coming back on social media couple of months ago. He wrote, “Its coming back .. KBC .. because every ’setback’ needs to be answered with a ‘comeback’ !! @sonytvofficial Jo bhi ho, setback ka jawaab #ComeBack se do. #KBC12 shuru ho raha hai jald hi sirf Sony TV par. #KBC @amitabhbachchan @spnstudionext (sic).”
Social distancing is the norm on the sets of KBC 12. Amitabh Bachchan started shooting the 12th season of the famous quizzing game show in August after recovering from Covid-19. Naturally, extra precautions were introduced to ensure the safety of everyone. Besides the crew, even those who accompany the contestants on the show are seated far from one another.
MINIMAL PHYSICAL CONTACT
Amitabh, who used to welcome contestants with a warm handshake and a hug in previous seasons of KBC has been making minimal physical contact with them. The team came up with a middle-ground for this. The contestants aren’t allowed to hug him, but the actor has been doing an elbow bump with them, calling the gesture “elbow hi”.
The sets of KBC had to be redesigned keeping new safety guidelines in mind. The designs of the hot seat and the contestants’ chair were also changed so that there’s more gap from Amitabh. KBC 12 has a bigger control room along with partitions. Amitabh’s teleprompter room has a glass wall with the 77-year-old on one side and the scriptwriter on the other.
NO LIVE AUDIENCE
The show enjoys immense popularity and the studio used to be filled with people in previous seasons. For the first time in the history of Kaun Banega Crorepati, there is no live audience this season. Therefore, the audience poll lifeline had to be replaced by another one called video-a-friend.
Sanitisers have become a necessity everywhere, right? So, there are sanitisation tunnels on the sets of KBC 12. A heavy load of sanitisation happens at least four-five times a day. A team also sanitises the set during every break.
Doctors check temperatures and oxygen levels of the team from time to time on KBC 12. A database of everyone on the set is also maintained. They even have a set monitor to keep a check on how people are wearing the masks.
INCREASED ENTRY-EXIT POINTS
Earlier, KBC’s set used to have two entry-exit points, which have now increased to four-five. Also, Amitabh Bachchan and contestants now use separate entry and exit points. The crew number was also decreased to 175 people.
ONLINE SELECTION PROCESS
KBC 12 devised a way to conduct the selection process of contestants online for this season – from registrations to auditions. Also, the team from KBC didn’t visit the home of the prospective contestants to shoot a video that gives an insight in their lives. Instead, the contestants shot their own videos. Also, earlier there used to be 10 contestants who would play the fastest-finger round in order to get a chance to be on the hotseat. However, this time there are 8.
Masks have become an inseparable part of our lives and it is a strict rule on KBC 12. Everyone around Amitabh Bachchan is required to wear PPE kits. They even have a set monitor to keep a check on how people are wearing their masks.
There are three places where one can watch the show – on Sony TV channel on the small screen, on SonyLiv App or on Sonyliv.com. However, some of these services require subscription. Also, Jio and Airtel subscribers can watch KBC 12 live streaming for free on Jio TV and Airtel TV.
