After Roshni land scam, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court intervened in a case related to the illegal occupation of government bungalows by former ministers and ex-legislators.

While hearing a PIL filed by Prof SK Bhalla through Advocate Sheikh Shakeel, Jammu and Kashmir High Court has come down heavily on the Union Territory administration and asked why government bungalows haven’t been vacated despite terms of former legislators having ended long back.

The court directed the UT administration to file a comprehensive report on the electricity bills, maintainence cost and other expenditure that is being spent by the former legislators. The court also issued a notice to the UT administration.

Meanwhile, the estates department, in its status report filed in the court, named 89 former ministers and ex-legislators who continue to occupy the govt bungalows despite demitting office. Some of the prominent names in the list are J&K BJP chief and former MLA Ravinder Raina, former J&K deputy CM Kavinder Gupta, ex-MLA Hakeem Mohd Yaseen, family of former J&K CM GM Shah. Politicians belonging to many parties have been mentioned in the report by the Estates dept.
