Javed Akhtar on Thursday appeared before Andheri Magistrate Court where he has filed a criminal defamation case against actress Kangana Ranaut. Javed Akhtar’s verification in front of the court for the complaint was needed, for which he was present in court today. Despite the pandemic, Javed Akhtar appeared in front of the court, he showed his identity and brief details about his complaint. Now that the verification is done, the next hearing in the matter will be on December 19.
WHAT IS JAVED AKHTAR’S CASE AGAINST KANGANA RANAUT?
Javed Akhtar had filed a criminal defamation case against Kangana Ranaut at Andheri Magistrate Court. The complaint has been filed after Kangana Ranaut, in an interview to a news channel, had allegedly caused harm to Javed Akhtar’s reputation. Javed Akhtar has asked for proceedings against Kangana Ranaut on the basis that the video interview garnered views in lakhs on various online platforms. The veteran lyricist has claimed that Kangana Ranaut dragged his name unnecessarily in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.
HOW IS THIS CONNECTED TO THE SUSHANT SINGH RAJPUT DEATH CASE?
Kangana Ranaut has been demanding justice for Sushant Singh Rajput and has often expressed her views on Twitter. She has also given interviews to various news channels, demanding justice for SSR, and the interview in question was one of those. Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra home on June 14. A CBI investigation regarding the same is underway.
Javed Akhtar has asked for a defamation case to be registered against Kangana Ranaut under section 499 and 500 of IPC. The first hearing of the case has been kept for December 19, 2020.
