India records 36,604 fresh Covid-19 cases, 501 deaths in 24 hours

The coronavirus situation seems tapering down in the country. India has recorded 36,604 fresh coronavirus infections, and 501 fatalities in the past 24 hours, according to the official data on Wednesday.

Daily fresh cases remain below 50,000 as a million tests are conducted daily, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has said.

Now, the total number of cases in the country stands at 94,99,414.

With 501 deaths in a day, the toll has mounted to 1,38,122. The country has 4,28,644 active cases of coronavirus, the Union health ministry said on Wednesday.

In the past 24 hours, 43,062 patients were discharged across the country, taking the total recovered patients to 89,32,647.

The total number of samples tested up to Tuesday stood at 14,24,45,949, including 10,96,651 samples tested yesterday itself, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Union health ministry said on Tuesday that the country does not need to vaccinate all of its 1.3 billion people if it manages to break the transmission of coronavirus. India recorded 31,118 fresh cases on Tuesday, the lowest daily tally since November 17, the health ministry data showed.
