Haryana groom supports farmers’ protest as he attends wedding in tractor

A groom from Karnal in Haryana has gone viral on Twitter after he arrived at his wedding on a tractor instead of a luxury car to show his solidarity with the farmers.

Amid the farmers’ protest happening in Delhi right now against the central government’s farm laws, one groom is going viral for showing his solidarity in a unique way. A groom in Haryana expressed his support for the farmers protesting right now by driving a tractor to his wedding.


According to ANI, a groom in Karnal, Haryana, chose to ride a tractor, instead of a luxury car, to his wedding venue to show his support for the farmers’ protests. The groom told ANI, “We might be moving to city but our roots are farming. Farmers should be priority. We want to send message that farmers have public support (sic).”

In addition, the mother of the groom, told ANI that the family opted for a simple wedding for their son so that they could save some money and donate it for the farmers’ cause. “We opted for a simple wedding. The money saved will be donated to the Gurudwaras feeding langars to the protesting farmers,” she said.

In the pictures tweeted by the news agency, the groom can be seen sitting on a tractor as he leaves for the wedding venue. After the post was shared, it instantly went viral and managed to garner more than 1.2k likes.

Meanwhile, thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab and Haryana, have braved water cannons and teargas to camp at the national capital’s borders to demand a rollback of the farm bills. On Saturday, a meeting was held between farmers’ leaders and the Union government at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The farmers’ unions have stuck to their demand that the government must rollback the three farm laws and have given a call for ‘Bharat Bandh’ on December 8.
