ED files application to declare Iqbal Mirchi’s wife, sons as fugitive economic offenders


On the basis of chargesheet filed by the ED before the Special PMLA Court, open-ended NBWs (Non-Bailable Warrants) were issued against Iqbal Mirchi’s wife and sons.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed an application before the PMLA court to declare Iqbal Mirchi’s wife and sons as fugitive economic offenders, officials said.

The application under section 4 read with section 12 of Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA), 2018 has been filed before the Special PMLA Court in the Iqbal Mirchi case with a request to declare Junaid Iqbal Memon, Asif Iqbal Memon ( both sons of Iqbal Mirchi) and Hajra Memon (wife of Iqbal Mirchi) as fugitive economic offenders.

“In the said application prayer has been made to order for confiscation of their assets as envisaged under FEOA. In the first phase, prayer has been made for the confiscation of 15 Indian Properties including 3rd and 4th Floor of Ceejay House and having market value Rs 96 crore and 6 Bank accounts having balance Rs 1.9 crore,” said the ED.

The financial probe agency is also expected to file a supplementary application under the FEOA.

In this case, ED has attached assets to the tune of Rs 798 crore (Approx) in India and abroad under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act linked to Iqbal Mirchi.

On the basis of chargesheet filed by the ED before the Special PMLA Court, open-ended NBWs (Non-Bailable Warrants) were issued against Asif Memon, Junaid Memon and Hajra Memon.

“Till now, all 3 accused have been evading their presence before the Special Court and the NBWs remain unexecuted,” said the ED.
