Actor and Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh visited the farmers’ protest at Singhu (Delhi-Haryana) border on Saturday. A delegation of the farmers is sitting in a meeting with the Union Agriculture Minister at Vigyan Bhawan as the ongoing agitation against the central government’s three new farm laws entered Day-10.
Addressing farmers at Singhu border, actor Diljit Dosanjh said, “I have come here to listen not speak. Thank you to the farmers from Punjab and Haryana. You have created history once again.”
In what is being seen as a snide remark aimed at actor Kangana Ranaut, Diljit Dosanjh said, “Hindi main bhi bol raha hun phir badh me Google na karna pade (I am also speaking in Hindi so that one need not Google what I am saying again)”.
He went on to add, “I want to say to the government- Do not divert from the issues. There is no other discussion going on here apart from that related to farmers. Whatever the farmers want, the government should accept. All are sitting peacefully. There is no talk of bloodshed. Everyone twists [facts] on Twitter.”
If ongoing talks between the central government and the protestors remain inconclusive, the farmers have issued a call for Bharat Bandh on December 8. According to statements given by farmer leaders, protestors will free all toll booths to express their displeasure for the government.
Agitating farmers also said they would burn effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and corporate houses if demands are not met.
Apart from complete withdrawal of the three new farm laws, the protestors are also demanding a nationwide law to punish those who procure produce below Minimum Support Price (MSP).
