Delhi: Batla House, Shaheen Bagh, Abul Fazal markets to remain shut following AAP MLA’s arrest


The markets of Batla House, Shaheen Bagh and Abul Fazal market area will remain closed on Friday in protest of AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan’s arrest. The MLA was arrested on Thursday.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested by Delhi Police for taking part in a protest against an anti-encroachment drive. Amanatullah Khan, who was part of the protest at Madanpur Khadar, was detained on Thursday morning.

In another development, the markets of Batla House, Shaheen Bagh and Abul Fazal market area will remain closed in protest of AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan’s arrest.

Amanatullah Khan said he was willing to go to jail to protest against the action being undertaken by the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) lodged a complaint with the police against Amanatullah Khan and his supporters, accusing them of obstructing its anti-encroachment drive in Shaheen Bagh on Monday.

Khan has been booked under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
