Cocaine worth over Rs 22 lakh seized from 3 Nigerian nationals in Mumbai

Mumbai Police Special Squad on Thursday busted a drug peddling network run by foreign nationals and seized cocaine worth over Rs 22 lakh from three accused.

Acting on a tip-off, the squad laid a trap at Link Road in Malad under jurisdiction of Bangurnagar police station on December 2. A foreign national reached the spot and matched the description provided by the informer. He tried to flee as the police team approached him but was apprehended.

Upon search, 10.14-gram cocaine was recovered from him. The man was identified as Uche James, a 38-year-old Nigerian National. He was produced in court and remanded to police custody till December 7.

The police team on December 3 brought James at Royal Palms in Aarey Colony Goregaon and on the basis of information he had provided, a trap was laid to nab his accomplices. Two foreign nationals were apprehended at the spot in Royal Palms. They were identified as Emeka Cyprian and Chukwu Joseph and 210 gram of cocaine was seized from both of them. Both Cyprian and Chukwu are also Nigerian nationals.

The total seizure made from the three accused is around 220.14 grams and is worth over Rs 22 lakh. Officials from the special squad said that the arrest could lead them to other peddlers and help bust the cocaine peddling ring being run in suburban Mumbai.
