CBI arrests BJP Councillor in a bribery case in Delhi


BJP leader and Councillor Manoj Mehlawat has been arrested by the CBI in connection with a bribery case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested Manoj Mehlawat, BJP leader and an elected Councillor from Vasant Kunj, New Delhi in connection with a bribery case, sources said.

India Today has learnt that after receiving information that Manoj Mehlawat has demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a person in regards to construction work, a trap was laid by the agency. Sources said, Manoj Mehlawat was caught red hand by the CBI and placed under arrest. Manoj Mehlawat will be produced before the court for custody in the case.

Manoj Mehlawat was elected from Vasant Kunj in the 2017 municipal elections on the ticket of Bhartiya Janta Party.

The federal probe agency officials also reportedly conducted searches at his premises in Vasant Kunj from where he was placed under arrest.

In a crackdown against corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation in the last few months has arrested several government officials including officials of law enforcement agency.
