India Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane starred with the bat on an otherwise disappointing Day 1 of the practice match against Australia A in Sydney on Sunday. India A rode on Ajinkya Rahane’s unbeaten 108 to reach 237 for 8 in 90 overs after electing to bat first at the Drummoyne Oval in Sydney.
Openers Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill flopped big time with both getting out without troubling the scorers before Cheteshwar Pujara and Rahane took charge of the innings.
Pujara scored 54 off 140 balls with five boundaries before Rahane hit 108 off 228 balls which included a six and 16 boundaries. Umesh Yadav (24), Hanuma Vihari (15) and Kuldeep Yadav (15) were the only other batsmen who managed to score in double digits.
Rahane and Siraj will resume India’s innings on Day 2 of theç three-day tour match before the Test series in Australia starting December 17.
