Akshay Kumar meets Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath in Mumbai

On Tuesday night, Akshay Kumar met Uttar Pradeh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and discussed his upcoming film Ram Setu. The actor met the politician for dinner at Mumbai’s Trident Hotel where the latter is staying currently. The UP Chief Minister is in Mumbai to launch a Rs 200 crore Lucknow Municipal bond at the Bombay Stock Exchange. He will also meet Bollywood personalities to discuss the future of the proposed film city project in Uttar Pradesh that he announced in September.


According to sources, Akshay Kumar discussed Abhishek Sharma directorial Ram Setu. The film aims to chronicle the story of the Ram Setu (bridge), which according to Ramayan is said to be constructed by the monkey army of Sugreev to reach Lanka from Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu to rescue Sita.

Today (December 2), CM Yogi Adityanath will launch a Rs 200 crore Lucknow Municipal bond at the Bombay Stock Exchange. He is also expected to meet several Bollywood celebrities and producers. Producer Rahul Mittra had earlier told new agency PTI that Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to meet a delegation of Bollywood filmmakers on Wednesday to discuss the future of the proposed film city in the state.

Filmmakers including Subhash Ghai, Boney Kapoor, Rajkumar Santoshi, Sudhir Mishra, Ramesh Sippy, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Madhur Bhandarkar, Umesh Shukla, Bhushan Kumar, Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios and Siddharth Roy Kapur are part of the delegation invited to the meeting.


In September, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister had unveiled an ambitious plan to set up a film city in Noida and rolled out an open offer to the film fraternity to come to the state to make films. “The CM, while addressing a review meeting, announced to set up the biggest and most beautiful film city of the country in Gautam Buddha Nagar. He instructed officials to search for a suitable land in or around Noida, Greater Noida or Yamuna Expressway and prepare an action plan,” an official statement said.

After his announcement, CM Yogi also held virtual meetings with members of the film industry. He said, “Uttar Pradesh has borders with seven states and one country. This is the cultural centre of the entire country. World’s oldest city Varanasi and Lord Ram’s birthplace Ayodhya, both are in the state.”

He added, “The new film city will be near the historic city of Hastinapur as the land identified is close to the city. Hastinapur has tremendous contribution in the history of our country. Film city will be between the holy rivers of Ganga and Yamuna.”
