Adidas To Sponsor Indian Team’s Kit: BCCI
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a partnership with renowned sportswear company Adidas as its kit sponsor. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah shared the news on his Twitter account, hinting at the possibility of the Indian team donning a new limited-overs jersey in their upcoming matches. Currently, the players are participating in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) for their respective franchises. Following the IPL, they will face Australia in the 2023 World Test Championship final.
“I’m pleased to announce @BCCI’s partnership with @adidas as a kit sponsor. We are committed to growing the game of cricket and could not be more excited to partner with one of the world’s leading sportswear brands. Welcome aboard, @adidas,” tweeted Jay Shah.
Although Shah did not provide further details, it was previously reported that Adidas will replace Killer as the kit sponsor through a five-year agreement. A BCCI official stated that the finer details of the contract are currently being worked out, but the valuation is expected to increase.
Killer, a relatively lesser-known apparel brand, took over the kit sponsorship from MPL, which wanted to terminate its contract scheduled to run until the end of 2023. MPL had been paying the BCCI Rs 65 lakh per match along with Rs nine crore in royalties for a three-year deal. As a primarily jeans manufacturer, Killer’s five-month deal with the BCCI is considered a win-win situation for the brand, according to market experts.
According to a source familiar with the matter, Killer is happy to stretch their deal through April and May as those are IPL months and it will allow it to leverage players like Virat Kohli (who is a Puma athlete) and Rohit Sharma (an Adidas athlete).
