India skipper Virat Kohli was keen on getting his IPL teammate AB de Villiers’ reaction after playing the never-seen-before scoop shot against Andrew Tye in the visitors’ 6-wicket win in Sydney. Kohli executed the scoop shot, which is famously known as the ABD shot, to perfection in Tye’s over as the ball flew flat over the ropes for a maximum.
Shikhar Dhawan (52) and a fiery cameo from Hardik Pandya guided India to a terrific 6-wicket win in the 2nd T20I against Australia on Sunday in Sydney. With this win, the visitors have taken a 2-0 unassailable lead in the 3-match series.
Notably, India has won 10 straight T20I matches and Kohli credited it to the significance of players understanding their role and executing it at the highest level.
“Yeah meant a great deal. We’ve played as a team in T20 cricket. The fact that we don’t have Rohit and Bumrah, our established white ballplayers, in and still doing well makes me happy,” Virat Kohli said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“Everyone has played 14 games at least, recently – so they know what their plans are. We just kept them down to a total which we thought was quite changeable with the short boundary.
“It’s contributions from the whole team that make you feel better because young players are taking their opportunities,” Kohli added.
Kohli full of praises for Hardik
Hardik Pandya came up with a terrific finishing performance as he hit 42 not out in just 22 balls, hitting 2 massive sixes and 3 boundaries to help India complete a successful chase and maintain their unbeaten record in T20Is in Sydney.
“The reason was Hardik coming into the team in 2016 was pure ability. He has raw talent. And now he realizes that this is his time, the next 4-5 years, to be that bankable player that can win you games from anywhere,” Kohli was full of praises for Hardik Pandya.
“His plans are right and I’m glad to see that. We had a word before the game to ride the atmosphere and the energy from the fans.
“[The scoop] there was indeed an AB shot! I told Hardik Tye Wasnt expecting it and he said he didn’t either. I’ll text AB tonight, see what he thinks of it,” Kohli said when he was asked about the scoop shot in Tye’s over.
